| The firm that helped organize traffic flows when the A34 underpass was built have been hired to examine car parking in Newbury town centre.
With 10 car parks to be built on in the next five years, London-based transport consultants WSP have been hired by West Berkshire Council to gather accurate figures on parking supply and demand in and around town.
WSP is already working on ideas for a junction upgrade of Bear Lane and the Wharf, which will take significantly more traffic when the Market Place is pedestrianised next summer.
As newbury.net revealed last week, ambitious plans to turn the Wharf car parks into a boat basin have been stalled so the council can get an accurate picture of the impact on parking.
The council could also amend planning policies to generate income for any upgrade, in return for granting permission. |
