| Falkland School in Andover Road has retained its crown as the best primary school in Newbury.
The 400-pupil school came top of the town in new government league tables released today, scoring very well in literacy and science, but not so well in maths.
The government scores all schools on a wide range of measures, such as the proportion with special needs to how much it has improved, and how many pupils are taken on term-time holidays by their parents.
The worst school in Newbury continues to be Greenham Court on the Nightingales estate. Although recording a big improvement on last year, standards are still way below where it was three years ago, and absences are nearly double those of Falkland.
Further afield, Streatley CofE School also retained its status as the best primary school in West Berkshire, after achieving 100% in all three subjects, while the worst village schools were Lambourn Primary, and the Ilsleys.
