Carnival revival on track for Newbury
02nd December 2005 10.49am

Newbury Carnival organisers are hoping for as many as 80 floats at next summer’s event, after widespread anger and disappointment at this year’s lacklustre affair.

Former organisers Bryan and Phillippa Harper have returned to organize the 2006 bash, and already have around 47 expressions of interest from local groups, businesses, schools and others for the July 2 bonanza.

To make the newlook parade go with a swing, a troupe of Hungarian country dancers have been asked to perform, and New Greenham Tandoori has agreed to prepare a Carnival Curry for the big day.

The carnival is launching a website in January, but as the town’s favourite website, newbury.net will be keeping people updated in the run-up to the big day, and will have a dedicated page.

The theme for Newbury Carnival 2006 is “80 Days Around the World” which is a lovely open theme to encourage as wide a participation and range of entries as possible.

To make the carnival the best parade ever, the carnival is looking for more than 20 sponsors, and a record number of entries. This year’s carnival drew only two floats and two groups parading.
