| Locally based phone giant Vodafone are believed to be on the verge of ending their multi-million pound sponsorship deal with Manchester United.
It is reported that Vodafone will end the deal with Manchester United when the current season finishes in May 2006. This follows the highly controversial takeover of the club by Malcom Glazer.
Instead Vodafone will be sponsoring the UEFA Champions League. They will be an official partner and the official mobile network for UEFA.
This partnership will bolster Vodafone’s 3G service, which will enable them to deliver video highlights and goal alerts from UEFA matches via the Vodafone Live! service.
Vodafone has sponsored Manchester United since 2000 and the four year deal was believed to be worth 9 million pounds per annum to the club.
Manchester United are said to be confident of securing a new sponsorship deal before the start of the 2006/2007 season. |
