New speed limits for local roads
28th July 2004 10.23am

Local roads officials are to cut the speeding limit on the A339 approach to the Pinchington Lane roundabout, amid fears that motorists coming in from the south are driving too fast.

West Berkshire Council is planning to cut the 50mph limit to 30mph for the approach to the pedestrian crossing at the top of the Newtown stretch.

Politicians, officials and police met last month to rule on 16 changes to speed limits across the district, including two in Newbury.

The other scheme is to extend the 40mph zone on the A4 Bath Road at Speen.

Cabinet councillor for highways Sally Hannon will decide Thursday whether to put the schemes in place, when the public will be consulted.
