10,000 to descend on Newbury
16th July 2004 10.19am

Up to 10,000 racegoers a day will be making their way to Newbury over the weekend, after course managers issued huge giveaways.

Hotels, pubs and restaurants will be packed from tonight in anticipation of International Arab Day on Sunday – one of the big days in the flat racing calendar.

Under town planning rules, the racecourse has to bring in 10% of racegoers by train, but traffic jams are still expected in and around East Fields when the gates open at noon.

Tickets range from £13 for a grandstand seat to £85 for a balcony view in the Hennessy restaurant.
