The chaps behind plans for 7500 homes SW of Reading have aborted.....and those close to it are blaming the extortionate s106 payments (the developer tax that adds £5000 to the cost of a new home).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berkshire/8556753.stm

Of course this means WBC will now look more favourably on Cartergrad to develop faster in their next 25 Year Plan.

Mr Brown has pledged government support of CCTV and DNA to help solve crime in local communities.
This was part of a speech delivered today in Reading. Now, crime figures are down but fear of crime is still a problem so to counteract this, if they win the election, they will also provide a more obvious police prescence on the street.

Great stuff, especialy about support for CCTV which of course is not part of WBC's manifesto who are downgrading coverage and transferring the control to another town which might just as well be Bangladore or similar.

If labour win, I wonder where that leaves WBC and even if they don't, the Conservatives can't really say that although Labour supported CCTV, they don't.
