There will be confusion and chaos for a month according to the roadside signs which inform us that Shaw Road will be closed to traffic for four weeks. I think I read it correctly but if that is the case, Kiln Road and Walton Way will be a nightmare coping with diverted traffic. |

It is to be closed from 15th February to 19th March for drainage works as it's a flood area. |

Blimey, they're not dealing with the flooding in the area are they - or is it just part of another piece of work? My parents moved into Shaw Road when they moved to Newbury. I don't remember much about it as I was a toddler when they moved over 50 years ago, but my mum tells me that the cellars flooded every time it rained.
She also said that back then you could walk the full length of the crescent through the attics, but that's another story. |

Or just make it up in this case. I have more faith in the drivers of Newbury that they won't create confusion and chaos in fact don't ever think I've seen chaos as far as traffic goes in Newbury even in the recent snow.

Are you saying there won't be any chaos at the closure of this road then? Perhaps that is always the thinking in WBC and they really are surprised when traffic jams occur! |

Perhaps it will be the same idiot drivers who insist on driving across Parkway bridge every busy lunchtime or evening instead of using the A339.... They get caught in the traffic jams of their own creation yet come back day after day to do the same thing and sit in their cars complaining. Too dimwitted to seek alternative routes........ |

They get caught in the traffic jams of their own creation yet come back day after day to do the same thing and sit in their cars complaining. Too dimwitted to seek alternative routes........

I've never got caught up in a traffic jam of my own creation - it is always the cars in front of me that have created it. (I may have added to the problems of the people behind though!) |

Who for example what? Don't get what you mean... May be guilty of being dimwitted but your question is a bit vague.... You want me to name and shame?! If there's a bit of 'chaos and confusion' on the first day of the road closure on Shaw Road, that's to be expected. Not all drivers take notice of the advance warning signs and it's only when the closure is in place that local drivers get to know the impact. WBC should normally sign a diversion. By day two or three those local drivers SHOULD (if they're sensible) either be finding an alternative route if they find the chaos too much or should be altering the time they use that road.... OTHERWISE (if they insist on being caught up in the 'chaos and confusion' for the whole month of the closure) they are probably the same dimwits using the Parkway Bridge... |

It is true that the problems will reduce after the first few days but undoubtedly there will be problems for the month. No one has said the closure shouldn't happen this time! - just that there will be problems! |

You make it sound so easy, the one problem is that many people seek alternative routes and therefore you simply move the problem somewhere else.

In a 24 hour day, traffic on Parkway Bridge is free flowing most of the time. It is, though, very quick to jam up. |
